Description & Requirements

Don’t come for an easy career. Stay for a rewarding one.
At Santos, we do work that matters and always have. When you join us, so will you.

As an ASX 20 global energy company, we’re committed to providing reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone.

To make it happen, we work as One Team and ask ourselves, “How can we?” (Even when others say, “We can’t.”)
We’re proud of our history as pioneers, problem-solvers, and pragmatists. And as we strive to achieve our Vision2040, we’ve got our sights set on a culture that is focussed and disciplined to drive value, and entrepreneurial and energised to leave a positive legacy.

The difference isn’t just thinking big – it’s delivering on it too.

As part of the team, you’ll tackle one of the most complex problems of our time. It’s no easy task, but nothing rewarding ever is.

What you’ll do:
Based at our Roma site, this position is primarily responsible for supervising Development Execution’s contractor-executed civil, flowline, and connection construction activities across Eastern Queensland, Cooper Basin, Northern Territory, and Narrabri. Additionally, the role involves providing site leadership to contractors on safety, environmental, cultural heritage, and land access matters, while actively engaging with all relevant stakeholders on these issues.

Key accountabilities include:
  • Provide site leadership to DevEx’s contractors on safety, environmental, cultural heritage, and land access matters.
  • Actively engage with all relevant stakeholders on safety, environmental, cultural heritage, and land access issues.
  • Ensure compliance with the Santos Management System (SMS) and contractor safe work procedures through critical control verifications, interactions, and participation in investigations, audits, and toolbox meetings.
  • Recognize driving as a high-risk activity and always drive to conditions (as measured by IVMS index).
  • Promptly report or escalate all safety, environmental, cultural heritage, and land access matters, incidents, or near misses in accordance with DevEx’s escalation procedure.
  • Develop and maintain healthy relationships with team members, contractors, and other Santos stakeholders (e.g., Production Operations).
  • Actively participate in and promote a healthy team culture.
  • Proactively contribute to Santos’ cost-saving objectives by challenging design and contractor work methods and practices.
  • Submit timesheets accurately and on time.
  • Minimize the risk of construction or well online schedule delays.
  • Support high-quality installation practices through site inspections and punch list walk-down attendance.
  • Continuously improve standard practices and work methods.
  • Coordinate on-site kick-off/ice-breaker meetings.
  • Drive the closure of both Santos and contractor punch list items.
  • Review and approve contractor’s construction completion documentation (e.g., FICs, MDRs) as required.
  • Approve construction completion certificates (e.g., MCC or CCC) and upload them into the Commissioning SharePoint for RFSU.

What you’ll bring:
You have a strong background in the oil & gas or mining industry, bringing valuable experience to the role. You excel in leadership, with the ability to manage indirect reports effectively. You are adept at handling CAPEX budget responsibilities. Your technical competencies align with DevEx’s Competency Matrix 0010-200-WPR-0002 and Job Grade Framework 0010-150-PLA-0501. This position is business-critical, and you are ready to take on the challenge with your expertise and dedication.

What you’ll get:
Here, you’ll be amongst high-calibre people and get to work on industry-leading projects. We don’t shy away from solving tough problems at pace. We like it that way. You can expect to be challenged and supported; to learn and grow.

At Santos, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. This means a place that is safe; where you are valued and respected, and your contribution is recognised and appreciated. Join us, and you’ll play a role in this too.

What you’re part of:
Everywhere you turn you will be a part of a team who are coming together to contribute to our single uniting purpose - to provide reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone

And because it’s not only what you do, but how you do it, you will also contribute to improving the living standards of the communities where we operate, building enduring and respectful relationships that serve a generation. It’s about each of us, and all of us – together.
