Description & Requirements

At Santos, we do work that matters and always have. When you join us, so will you.

As an ASX 20 global energy company, we’re committed to providing reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone.

To make it happen, we work as One Team and ask ourselves, “How can we?” (Even when others say, “We can’t.”)
We’re proud of our history as pioneers, problem-solvers, and pragmatists. And as we strive to achieve our Vision2040, we’ve got our sights set on a culture that is focussed and disciplined to drive value, and entrepreneurial and energised to leave a positive legacy.

The difference isn’t just thinking big – it’s delivering on it too.

As part of the team, you’ll tackle one of the most complex problems of our time. It’s no easy task, but nothing rewarding ever is.

What you’ll do:
Based in the Santos Brisbane office, this role provides post-award contract advisory and administration for construction contracts supporting Cooper Basin Development Execution. You will ensure contractors meet their performance, cost, schedule, and HSSE obligations throughout the contract lifecycle from award to close-out protecting Santos’ commercial and legal interests.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and advise on construction contracts (EPC/EPCM & Construction Services) in line with project goals and Santos’ Opportunity Delivery Process (ODP).
  • Monitor contractor performance against scope, schedule, cost, and HSSE standards.
  • Prepare, review, and process contract variations, purchase orders, and extensions of time per Santos Delegation of Authority (DOA).
  • Review and approve contractor payment claims and progress certificates; assist with cost forecasting and budget reporting.
  • Maintain accurate contract registers and audit-ready documentation in accordance with Santos Management System (SMS).
  • Identify and manage contractual risks, potential claims, and disputes; escalate and provide commercial advice as required.
  • Facilitate regular contract review and performance meetings with contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Work closely with engineering, construction, HSE, finance, and project controls teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Lead contract extension reviews for EVP and JV approvals.
  • Oversee contract close-out activities, including warranties, final documentation, and lessons learned.

What you’ll bring:
We are looking for an experienced Contract Advisor with a demonstrated capability in post-award contracts, ideally within the oil and gas industry. You will support project delivery, ensure compliance and protect Santos interests, therefore your commercial acumen and technical skills managing complex construction contracts are vital, along with:
  • Demonstrated ability managing large construction contracts from award through to completion, including progress measurement and cost control.
  • Strong understanding of contract law, procurement practices, and construction progress measurement.
  • Keen ability to negotiate and implement cost-effective solutions.
  • Proficiency with contract management systems and project cost tracking tools.
  • Clear communication skills to articulate contract status, risks, and recommendations to multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent industry experience.
The following would be highly regarded:
  • Familiarity with EPC/EPCM contract forms (e.g., AS 4000, NEC, FIDIC) and Australian contract law.
  • Experience supporting greenfield developments and remote site construction activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve contractual disputes and manage change in fast-paced project environments.
  • Post-graduate certifications in commercial, contract, or project management (e.g., MCIPS, PMP).
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies such as the Australian Institute of Project Management or the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply.

What you’ll get:
Here, you’ll be amongst high-calibre people and get to work on industry-leading projects. We don’t shy away from solving tough problems at pace. We like it that way. You can expect to be challenged and supported; to learn and grow.

At Santos, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. This means a place that is safe; where you are valued and respected, and your contribution is recognised and appreciated. Join us, and you’ll play a role in this too.

Each of our sites offer access to specific amenities that aim to create the best possible benefits to your health, wellbeing and performance. In Brisbane, this includes Onsite Gym facilities, Onsite GP services and many more employee benefits.

What you’re part of:
Everywhere you turn you will be a part of a team who are coming together to contribute to our single uniting purpose - to provide reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone

And because it’s not only what you do, but how you do it, you will also contribute to improving the living standards of the communities where we operate, building enduring and respectful relationships that serve a generation. It’s about each of us, and all of us – together.
