What you’ll do:
Based in Brisbane, the Cultural Heritage Coordinator will support the implementation of vital cultural heritage agreements in QLD and NSW, whilst prioritising our commitment to Aboriginal Engagement.

Your exceptional coordination, communication and prioritisation skills will be pivotal in fostering and enhancing our relationships with Aboriginal groups within QLD and NSW, contributing to a more inclusive and respectful partnership. 

Your commitment to creating a meaningful impact that honours cultural heritage and promotes a collaborative progress, is key to this role.

Key accountabilities include:  
  • Ensure the safety of the Cultural Heritage team, contractors, and stakeholders.  
  • Assisting with the Aboriginal Engagement Strategy (AES) for Santos.  
  • Coordinate with native title claimants on land access, consents, and cultural heritage obligations.  
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous communities, government, and external stakeholders.  
  • Provide expert advice on Indigenous issues and strategies.  
  • Communicate with internal teams on cultural heritage management.  
  • Deliver cultural heritage clearance reports and manage related issues.  
  • Ensure compliance with Santos’ Management System, Delegation of Authority, and safety requirements. 
  • Lead and support a team in delivering cultural heritage clearances and site inductions.  
  • Maintain workplace standards aligned with Santos values.  
  • Accurately record cultural heritage expenditures against project codes.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience in negotiation involving Australian Indigenous peoples.
  • Understanding of native title and cultural heritage issues and application to the oil and gas industry.
  • Sound understanding of the history and culture of aboriginal communities.
  • Knowledge of current government policy frameworks as they relate to Indigenous peoples and particularly in relation to indigenous participation in the resources sector.
  • Exceptional coordination skills and ability to prioritise tasks/requests/goals.
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Experience working in a dynamic workplace while staying organised and positive

Preferably you will be experienced with Australian native title and cultural heritage legislation and practice, with specific understanding of native titles in the oil and gas industry.

You will ideally have an existing network within the Aboriginal communities, as well as negotiation and mediation skills, particularly in matters involving industry and Aboriginal peoples.
