What you’ll do:
As a Government Affairs Adviser based in Port Moresby, you will lead the development and execution of SANTOS’s government relations strategy in Papua New Guinea. 

You will drive key government engagement, monitor policy changes, and safeguard the company’s interests to support business success.
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of the Government Affairs strategy in collaboration with senior management to align with SANTOS business goals.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with senior and middle management of key government agencies and regulators such as the National Petroleum Authority, Conservation and Environment Protection Authority, Departments of National Planning and Monitoring, Treasury, Internal Revenue Commission, Prime Minister’s Department.
  • Monitor national and provincial government policies, sectoral plans, budget processes, and legislative developments; provide timely advice on their implications for SANTOS operations.
  • Maintain and update government and regulatory contact databases and profiles for key stakeholders.
  • Collect and analyse information on government activities, emphasising commercial, legal, environmental, and social risk factors, and report confidentially to senior management.
  • Facilitate communication with government officials regarding SANTOS operations, projects, and initiatives to enhance company reputation.
  • Identify and recommend public affairs initiatives; actively participate in industry and business forums to promote SANTOS.
  • Support PNG Communications Manager and team with field trips, corporate functions, and other PNGBU activities.
  • Support to internal departments in ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Drive cost-effective approaches in Government Affairs activities.
  • Ensure full compliance with Santos Management System (SMS), Delegation of Authority (DOA), Corporate Governance, and Health, Safety, Environment and Security (HSES) policies and standards.


What you’ll bring:
Essential:
  • Practical experience working in oil and/or gas field operations for 5-7 years.
  • Proven experience in government stakeholder engagement and consultation.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
Desirable: 
  • Familiarity with the PNG Oil & Gas Act, and Environment Act and current regulatory environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
Ideally, you will hold a tertiary qualification, with a degree being essential. Qualifications in Public Policy, Business, Communications, or related fields would be highly regarded.
