What you’ll do:
Based in Papua New Guinea, on a 4 and 4 roster the Mechanical Trainer will provide hands-on training, support, and assessment for Maintenance Staff, Mechanical Apprentices, and trainees. You’ll help them safely and efficiently build the skills and confidence needed to perform their roles effectively, adding real value to the Production and Maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver hands-on mechanical training and assessments in line with the Competency Based Training (CBT) program and company standards.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Training Team Lead, Maintenance Teams, and stakeholders to design training strategies, approaches, plans, and materials, ensuring the most effective tools and applications are available to assess and train mechanical trainees to the required standards.
  • Prepare plans and organise schedules for assessments and training according to CBT program requirements and Maintenance Team needs.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Readiness and Assurance Manager, Operations Training Team Lead, peers, and others to evaluate the assessment and training process, providing feedback to continually improve the CBT program.
  • Role models the value of Always Safe and actively promote Health, Safety, Environment, and Security policies.
  • Maintain accurate training and assessment records, ensuring timely updates in relevant systems.
  • Develop and deliver training resources as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with the Santos Management System (SMS), Delegation of Authority (DOA), and corporate governance and safety standards.

What you’ll bring:

Essential 
  • Extensive experience spanning over a decade in Oil & Gas Operations.
  • Proven and significant experience in training, lead or supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated maintenance expertise
  • Proven track record in delivering effective training
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Takes ownership of assignments from start to finish, reporting progress and challenges.
  • Exercises sound judgement and discretion on confidential matters.
  • Strong time management and administrative abilities.
  • Ability to prioritise workload, stay organised, and think quickly.
  • Adaptable able to adjust priorities as the Training Department role demands change.
  • Trade qualified (Mechanical).
  • Accreditation in Training and Assessing TAE40116 or TAE40122.
Desirable 
  • Experience interacting with Senior Management personnel.
  • Proficiency with ERP software or online data entry systems (e.g., SAP).
