What you’ll do:
As the Senior Project Engineer, you will lead and coordinate the engineering, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover of upstream oil and gas projects. You will provide expert technical support throughout the project lifecycle, from the FEED through to execution and completion across a selection of sustaining capital projects across Santos assets in PNG. 
  
Key accountabilities include:  
  • Ensure compliance with Santos HSES Management System.
  • Encourage incident/injury reporting and ensure thorough documentation and investigation.
  • Lead by example in health and safety practices.
  • Participate in Project related risk assessments and conceptual HAZOPs.
  • Manage risk register for assigned projects through to the end of concept phase.
  • Monitor contractor performance with Cost Controller and Scheduler.
  • Oversee design and procurement for assigned project elements.
  • Coordinate input from internal technical groups to contractors.
  • Deliver supporting engineering studies on time and within budget.
  • Develop scopes, execution plans, and commercial agreements. 
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
  • Monitor and recommend changes to external service provider personnel.
  • Manage personal work priorities and development.
  • Provide project delivery expertise through coaching and influence.Participate in monthly cost reviews and report to Managers.
  • Review high-risk action closures fortnightly from audits and assessments. 
What you’ll bring:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in Project Engineering/Project Management and its application in the Oil and Gas Industry, sufficient experience to ensure a thorough understanding of the technical, commercial and managerial aspects of assigned Projects, and previous experience from roles with substantial brownfields experience. 

Your ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is essential, along with:
  • Travel occasionally both interstate and Papua New Guinea.
  • Clearly understand the role and responsibilities within the Santos Opportunity Delivery Framework.
  • Communicate with people at all levels.
  • Explain complex technical issues to persons with low technical skills.
  • Work safely for extended hours as required from time to time and cope with living for short periods in a remote location.
  • Create and maintain good working relationships with a multicultural workforce. 

Additional Experience: 
  • Project development ranging from option analysis through to handover and commissioning.
  • Leadership of small multiple-discipline engineering teams.
  • Co-ordination of interfaces.
  • Undertaking projects in remote locations and developing nations.
  • Management of Contractor personnel.
