Description & Requirements

Don’t come for an easy career. Stay for a rewarding one.
At Santos, we do work that matters and always have. When you join us, so will you.

As an ASX 20 global energy company, we’re committed to providing reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone.

To make it happen, we work as One Team and ask ourselves, “How can we?” (Even when others say, “We can’t.”)

We’re proud of our history as pioneers, problem-solvers, and pragmatists. And as we strive to achieve our Vision2040, we’ve got our sights set on a culture that is focussed and disciplined to drive value, and entrepreneurial and energised to leave a positive legacy.

The difference isn’t just thinking big – it’s delivering on it too.

As part of the team, you’ll tackle one of the most complex problems of our time. It’s no easy task, but nothing rewarding ever is.

What you’ll do:
Based in Adelaide, the SAP Solution Architect is accountable for the technical design, standards, and direction of the Santos SAP landscape and associated systems and services.

You will ensure SAP services are designed to be secure, reliable, and fit for purpose, meeting the requirements of business stakeholders and service delivery leads. The role provides technical leadership across SAP, ensuring new services and solutions are delivered on time and within budget, and that all initiatives align with the IS Strategy. As the highest technical authority for SAP at Santos, you will set architectural direction and guide delivery across projects and operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical consulting and guidance to the SAP team and business stakeholders to maintain design standards and the integrity of the SAP landscape.
  • Apply solution thinking to plan and deliver initiatives in alignment with Santos’ strategy and business objectives.
  • Champion a change and performance mindset, supporting the achievement of desired culture outcomes.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction efficiencies, value creation strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives where relevant.
  • Collaborate effectively and in a timely manner with internal teams and external stakeholders, including service providers.
  • Establish and maintain governance and management of SAP architecture, ensuring compliance with company standards, processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, own, and deliver SAP architecture roadmaps and provide input into SAP lifecycle planning.
  • Apply appropriate solution design and delivery approaches to meet differing application and business service requirements.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within time, cost, and quality constraints, applying industry best practice and Santos processes.
  • Manage design and delivery risks while retaining focus on delivering value for the business.
  • Ensure services meet Operational Acceptance Criteria (OAC) and align with business requirements.
  • Translate strategic intent into practical execution and clearly communicate technology direction and proposals to stakeholders.
  • Accountable for solution technology roadmaps (SAP and other systems) and optimisation of the corporate systems environment for cost versus performance.
  • Ensure compliance with the Santos Management System (SMS), Delegation of Authority (DOA), and corporate governance and safety requirements.

What you’ll bring:
You will bring extensive technical expertise across the SAP landscape, combined with a hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and optimising SAP solutions. You will also have expertise in SAP technical design, development, and integration with an understanding of cloud platforms, coding, automation, and security management.
  • Significant experience across the SAP landscape, including hands-on participation in end-to-end SAP implementation projects.
  • Direct experience with SAP HANA and S/4HANA, covering design, implementation, migrations, transformation, and configuration.
  • Strong solution architecture, system design, contract and supplier management, and delivery management skills.
  • Proven leadership in SAP implementations, technical design, development, and integration.
  • Knowledge of coding and automation, particularly in Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environments.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and high-performing SAP solutions.
  • Degree qualified, or equivalent tertiary education and/or relevant work experience in a related IS/IT technical field.
  • Knowledge of SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform)

What you’ll get:
Here, you’ll be amongst high-calibre people and get to work on industry-leading projects. We don’t shy away from solving tough problems at pace. We like it that way. You can expect to be challenged and supported; to learn and grow.

At Santos, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. This means a place that is safe; where you are valued and respected, and your contribution is recognised and appreciated. Join us, and you’ll play a role in this too.
