What you’ll do:

As our Senior Geologist on the CSG Subsurface team, you will be tasked with identifying and preparing drill-ready well locations, support drilling operations, and integrating results into models and development plans. You will demonstrate your ability to assess hydrocarbon potential and risks for field and drilling opportunities. Develop and manage field development plans; update post-drill assessments and play a pivotal role providing operational support during drilling, including monitoring and steering advice

This role is located in Brisbane. 
  
Key accountabilities include:  

  • Build/update static reservoir models in collaboration with reservoir engineers. 
  • Contribute to geomechanical reviews for Fairview/Arcadia projects. 
  • Estimate field reserves and production potential using Sanots procedures.
  • Deliver quarterly drilling lookback/lookahead reports for JV partners.
  • Plan and manage quarterly gas and water sampling programs.
  • Ensure technical assurance through Santos’s Subsurface Assurance process.
  • Prepare technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior staff and support team capability initiatives. 
  
What you’ll bring: 

The ideal candidate for this role will be a degreed qualified geoscientist and have substantial experience in the oil and gas industry, including advanced coal seam gas development projects. 

5- 10 years CSG experience

You will be experienced in:
  • Planning and drilling horizontal SIS wells.
  • Skilled in multi-disciplinary subsurface team collaboration on field appraisal and development. 
  • Proficient in geological modelling with Petrel. 
  • Strong communicator with stakeholders and management.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and in teams. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across all levels. 

Additional desirable experience:
  • CSG modelling and/or operational experience.
  • Geophysical interpretation.
