Description & Requirements

At Santos, we do work that matters and always have. When you join us, so will you.

As an ASX 20 global energy company, we’re committed to providing reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone.

To make it happen, we work as One Team and ask ourselves, “How can we?” (Even when others say, “We can’t.”)
We’re proud of our history as pioneers, problem-solvers, and pragmatists. And as we strive to achieve our Vision2040, we’ve got our sights set on a culture that is focussed and disciplined to drive value, and entrepreneurial and energised to leave a positive legacy.

The difference isn’t just thinking big – it’s delivering on it too.

As part of the team, you’ll tackle one of the most complex problems of our time. It’s no easy task, but nothing rewarding ever is.

What you’ll do:
Join our team in a critical role focused on safeguarding PNG pipeline assets through effective Pipeline Integrity Management. You will play a key part in preventing loss of containment and uncontrolled energy release incidents by ensuring integrity plans are sustainable, compliant, and optimised across the asset lifecycle. The position also provides technical expertise to support operational performance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This is a Brisban based office role, with some site travel required to PNG.

Key accountabilities include:
  • Lead the prevention of loss of containment and uncontrolled energy release incidents
  • Manage and maintain Pipeline Integrity Management Plans (IMPs)
  • Ensure integrity strategies are sustainable and optimised across PNG assets
  • Monitor and report on integrity compliance and statutory requirements
  • Drive corrective actions to address integrity and compliance gaps
  • Support safe and reliable operation of pipeline assets
  • Maintain asset integrity throughout the full asset lifecycle
  • Provide discipline-specific technical support to operational teams
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in integrity management practices
  • Support business performance through effective risk and integrity management

What you’ll bring:
We are looking for an experienced and motivated engineering professional with a strong background in pipeline integrity within high-pressure hydrocarbon operating environments. Your proactive approach, sound technical judgement and strong communication skills will enable you to effectively manage risk, drive integrity outcomes and provide trusted technical support across the asset lifecycle. You will also be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Extensive experience within high-pressure hydrocarbon operating environments, with a strong focus on pipeline integrity and risk management
  • Proficiency in non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques, including their application, limitations and relevant pipeline repair methodologies
  • Experience developing and implementing risk-based inspection (RBI) programs to support safe and reliable asset operation
  • Strong understanding and practical application of relevant industry standards, including AS2885, ASME B31G and API 579
  • Experience conducting and supporting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and implementing corrective actions
  • Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex engineering data and documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), with Chartered Engineer and/or RPEQ accreditation
  • A collaborative and proactive approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement, safety and operational excellence

What you’ll get:
Here, you’ll be amongst high-calibre people and get to work on industry-leading projects. We don’t shy away from solving tough problems at pace. We like it that way. You can expect to be challenged and supported; to learn and grow.

At Santos, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. This means a place that is safe; where you are valued and respected, and your contribution is recognised and appreciated. Join us, and you’ll play a role in this too.
