Description & Requirements

Don’t come for an easy career. Stay for a rewarding one.
At Santos, we do work that matters and always have. When you join us, so will you.

As an ASX 20 global energy company, we’re committed to providing reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone.

To make it happen, we work as One Team and ask ourselves, “How can we?” (Even when others say, “We can’t.”)

We’re proud of our history as pioneers, problem-solvers, and pragmatists. And as we strive to achieve our Vision2040, we’ve got our sights set on a culture that is focussed and disciplined to drive value, and entrepreneurial and energised to leave a positive legacy.

The difference isn’t just thinking big – it’s delivering on it too.

As part of the team, you’ll tackle one of the most complex problems of our time. It’s no easy task, but nothing rewarding ever is.

What you’ll do:
Based in the Santos Brisbane office, the Senior Process Engineer leads early-phase design for our Eastern Australia and PNG assets. You’ll own Concept Select and FEED engineering, delivering fit-for-purpose designs that balance risk and reward, drive project value, and meet Santos’ exacting standards.

This role includes occasional travel to PNG, and QLD/NSW CSG sites.
This is a 12 month Max Term Contract opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support front-end loading engineering (Concept Select and FEED) for EAPNG projects, ensuring fit-for-purpose design that balances risk, maximises project value, and aligns with operating philosophy.
  • Provide Owner’s Engineering input to control scope and prevent drift during FEED and Detailed Design phases.
  • Deliver critical engineering documents and reports, including Concept Select deliverables, risk assessments (HAZID, HAZOP, CHAZOP, LOPA), and technical responses.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce costs, improve resource recovery, and leverage asset synergies across the portfolio.
  • Act as Technical Authority for Process discipline, overseeing compliance with regulatory, industry, and company standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support development of the engineering team.
  • Support key assets including Cooper Basin, Upstream Coal Seam Gas, Papua New Guinea and Curtis Island
  • Lead engineering reviews, change management, and collaborate with Principal Engineers and standards teams to maintain and improve engineering standards and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Santos’ management system, governance, and safety requirements.

What you’ll bring:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer with a strong background in oil and gas, particularly in upstream or processing facilities. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in Process Engineering and demonstrated technical excellence, as well as:
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian and industry standards relevant to oil and gas operations.
  • Demonstrated capability at a senior technical authority level (Santos Technical Authority Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer status or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (RPEQ) is required.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Ideally familiar with project management processes and practices

What you’ll get:
Here, you’ll be amongst high-calibre people and get to work on industry-leading projects. We don’t shy away from solving tough problems at pace. We like it that way. You can expect to be challenged and supported; to learn and grow.

At Santos, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. This means a place that is safe; where you are valued and respected, and your contribution is recognised and appreciated. Join us, and you’ll play a role in this too. In Brisbane this includes Onsite Gym facilities, Onsite GP services and many more employee benefits.

Each of our sites offer access to specific amenities that aim to create the best possible benefits to your health, wellbeing and performance.

What you’re part of:
Everywhere you turn you will be a part of a team who are coming together to contribute to our single uniting purpose - to provide reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone

And because it’s not only what you do, but how you do it, you will also contribute to improving the living standards of the communities where we operate, building enduring and respectful relationships that serve a generation. It’s about each of us, and all of us – together.
