What you’ll do:

We are looking for a motivated professional with extensive experience in operational risk management and Process safety with demonstrable passion in driving safety excellence

As the Senior Process Safety Engineer you will act as a Technical Authority and provide process safety engineering input and technical assistance across all Santos’ EAPNG operated upstream and midstream assets and projects. 

This role will foster and support a process safety mind set and culture within operated facilities and projects ensuring effective operational risk management, and process safety in design. 

*** Site travel to Santos’ regional facilities expected every 2 to 3 months.  

Key accountabilities include:  

  • Act as a Process Safety Technical Authority and provide operational risk management support. 
  • Development and operationalisation of Safety Assessment (Bowties) in Santos operated assets 
  • Embed and enhance use of Integrated Risk Register tool 
  • Provide process safety assistance, facilitate, review and lead technical investigations 
  • Foster effective risk management processes ensuring quality scenario-based risk assessment 
  • Monitor asset risk profile health and support assets to close gaps
  • Foster a culture of weak signal identification & escalation 
  • Steward and influence relevant operations governance metrics  
  • Ensure Process safety barrier health is appropriately supported by accountable SMEs through continuous improvements and learnings from incidents. 
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for systematic process improvement and efficiency including usage of data analytics. 
  • Audit and maintain oversight over performance standard health 
  • Provide support as a Change Management SME for facility engineering changes. 
  • Assist relevant assets in operating in line with relevant regulatory requirements/conditions 
  • Support professional development of junior and graduate process safety engineers. 
  
What you’ll bring:

To be successful in this role, we are seeking for professionals with demonstrated experience in the following: 
  • 10 years’ experience of Operations support in the Oil and Gas industry 
  • Experience in Process Safety support for Operations and Projects in the Oil & Gas industry. 
  • Experience in CMMS, BowTie XP and Phast software is highly desirable 
  • Experience in leading Process Hazard Assessments including HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA.  
  • Qualification in Functional Safety Engineering desirable. 

You hold an accredited degree/tertiary qualification in Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Chartered Engineer or equivalent and RPEQ accreditation.
