What you’ll do:
Based in the Brisbane office, this role is responsible for leading and coordinating the engineering, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover of upstream oil and gas projects across Santos assets in PNG. This role ensures that projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

The Senior Project Engineer provides expert technical support throughout the project lifecycle, from the FEED (Front End Engineering Design) phase through to execution and completion across a selection of sustaining capital projects. 

Acting as a key technical focal point, this role will interface with nominated external contractors and the Santos Site Operations & Production team. Responsibilities include managing design interfaces, ensuring operational readiness, and prioritising operability and safety. Developing close working relationships with these parties will be critical to the success of all projects. 

This role requires ad hoc travel, both interstate and to PNG. 

Key accountabilities include:
  • Interface with Cost Control and Project Scheduler to monitor and report project performance 
  • Day to day responsibility for assigned project elements including design and procurement 
  • Manage projects work as assigned including development of project schedules, budgets and execution plans 
  • Participate in Project related risk assessments and conceptual HAZOPs 
  • Manage the project risk register for assigned projects through to the end of concept phase 
  • Undertake a monthly review of the progress in relation to the assigned Project elements and provide a summary report to the relevant managers 
  • Undertake a fortnightly review of Action closure form high visible and high risk actions arising from Audits, Risk Assessments and assurance reviews, and other reviews as required  

What you’ll bring: 
This role will suit a candidate who demonstrates patience, maturity and a high standard of personal conduct. Flexibility, adaptability and resilience are required attributes along with a strong alignment to Santos values. 

Holding a Tertiary qualification in Engineering and RPEQ and/or CPEng, this role requires someone with a delivery mindset and strong work ethic, along with:  
  • Extensive experience in Project Engineering and its application in the Upstream Oil and Gas industry 
  • Relevant experience sufficient to ensure a thorough understanding of the technical, commercial and managerial aspects of assigned projects 
  • Project development ranging from option analysis through to handover and commissioning. Ideally this experience would have been obtained Facility Infrastructure type projects 
  • Management of Contractor personnel 
  • Experience offshore or delivering offshore projects ideally in remote locations or developing nations 
  • Ideally brownfields experience 
  • RPEQ and/or CPEng is required for this position
