What you’ll do:
As an experienced Rotating Equipment Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical assets across Santos’ operations.
Based in Brisbane, this position is offered as an initial 6-month max-term contract, with the potential to transition into a permanent role.

In this role, you’ll provide technical oversight, drive continuous improvement, and optimise the performance of rotating equipment including pumps, engines, fans, and associated systems. You’ll play a key role in ensuring uptime, reducing failures, and supporting cost-effective production outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee maintenance activities for all rotating and associated equipment, ensuring adherence to procedures and best practice 
  • Conduct diagnostic analysis, planning, and documentation of major works such as overhauls and equipment exchanges 
  • Lead and support equipment performance investigations to optimise uptime and operating costs 
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on recurring equipment failures and implement preventative solutions 
  • Implement and maintain remote monitoring systems to support offsite equipment oversight 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and project teams to coordinate maintenance activities and ensure compliance with standards 
  • Continuously improve predictive and preventative maintenance strategies and ensure accurate technical documentation is available 
  • Act as contract owner for key rotating equipment service and supply agreements, maximising value delivery 
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment and Security policies 
  • Ensure adherence to the Santos Management System (SMS), Delegation of Authority (DOA), and corporate governance requirements

What you’ll bring:

Essential:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline 
  • 7+ years’ experience working with rotating equipment in oil & gas or a comparable heavy industry 
  • Strong background in reliability engineering and maintenance management 
  • Experience mentoring or coaching junior engineers 
  • Solid understanding of rotating equipment (pumps, motors, fans, engines) and associated systems 
  • Experience with reliability methodologies such as RCM, FMEA, Weibull analysis 
  • Proficiency in ERP/CMMS systems 
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs and Process Flow Diagrams 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to deliver practical solutions 
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, and standards
Desired:
  • VCAT I or II certification and experience with AMS Machinery Manager 
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status 
  • Membership with a recognised engineering body (e.g. PNG Institute of Engineers)
