What you’ll do:
The Irrigation Lead is a hands-on Irrigation & Agronomy Supervisor responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of our CSG (Coal Seam Gas) irrigation systems, agronomic programs, and field teams. In this role, you will ensure the effective use of coal seam water for irrigation while safeguarding soil and ecosystem health. You will also coordinate livestock integration, oversee bushfire response activities, and uphold high safety standards across all operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage field staff and contractors involved in irrigation and agronomic operations
  • Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of centre pivot and drip irrigation systems
  • Provide specialist agronomy support, with a focus on soil salinity/sodicity and pasture/plantation health
  • Support bushfire preparedness and lead on-ground response activities as needed
  • Liaise with livestock teams to ensure integration with irrigated pastures aligns with the annual livestock plan
  • Manage urgent out-of-hours issues relating to agricultural operations
  • Oversee compliance with Santos Management System (SMS), corporate governance, safety, and Delegation of Authority requirements
  • Operate within a budget of ~$5 million OPEX, with delegated authority of up to $100K


About You
You are an experienced frontline leader with strong irrigation and agronomic knowledge, able to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams in a safety-conscious, field-based environment.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Diploma or trade qualification in water, agriculture, mechanisation, or related field
  • Extensive experience managing field teams in an agricultural or irrigation setting
  • Strong knowledge of pressurised irrigation systems (centre pivot, drip)
  • Hands-on experience with agricultural plant and equipment
  • Demonstrated leadership with an inclusive, team-focused approach
  • Experience in safety-focused workplaces

Desirable experience includes design and installation of irrigation systems, operation and maintenance of control systems for pumps and irrigation, soil and pasture management, livestock operations, and bushfire preparedness and response, including conducting planned burns.
