What you’ll do:
A vacancy has arisen for a Unit Controller in Operations Services at the Port Bonython facility.

Reporting to the Process Supervisor, the Unit Controller works on a 12-hour day and night shift roster, working 14 shifts in total over a 28-day period. 

The Unit Controller is a safety critical position and is responsible for performing and providing operational control of the receipt, processing, storage and load out of Hydrocarbon liquids.

Responsibilities include:  
  • Controlling and adjusting plant to ensure safe, efficient, operation from the Control Room, in accordance with policies, procedures and instructions provided
  • Respond safely and effectively to emergency situations to make the area/Plant safe. Able to direct field personnel to respond safely and effectively to emergency situations to make the area/Plant safe.
  • Coordinating the activities of Process Operators to ensure that the necessary adjustments are made to plant and equipment in the field
  • Maintaining effective communications with shift team members, incoming Unit Controller and others, including documented and structured shift handovers
  • Performing all required activities in accordance with the competencies gained through the Santos Competency Based Training system
  • Reviewing and contributing to the development of Operating procedures, shutdown work packs and other documentation
  • Recording and reporting on all procedures, adjustments and operations and maintain log books as aids to problem solving.
  • Providing Shift Supervisor relief where suitably trained and experienced
  • Other duties as required at the direction of the Shift Supervisor

What you’ll bring:
The preferred candidate will demonstrate effective experience in EHS and leadership responsibilities, where adherence to guidelines, direction and communication are essential.

You will have a successful history in setting benchmarks and priorities for agreed goals and prioritisation of workloads and proven abilities in identifying and implementing agreed process improvements within scope of your role. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, having flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and a self-motivated attitude are desirable for this role. 

You will also ideally bring proficiency in the interpretation of isometric and piping & instrumentation drawings (P&ID’s) and be a confident user of MS Office. Previous experience as Unit Controller or Process Operator would be advantageous. 

This position will suit applicants who reside in the Whyalla region.
