What you’ll do

The Vegetation Management Lead focuses on leading contractor teams to oversee vegetation and weed management across Santos' regional field operations.

This role involves strategic planning, scheduling, and coordination to ensure the safe and efficient execution of field activities, while maintaining environmental compliance and mitigating operational risks. The position requires both hands-on involvement and forward-thinking leadership.

Key accountabilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of vegetation and weed control programmes aligned with operational priorities and environmental objectives.
  • Establish and manage schedules prioritising high-risk areas and key project deadlines.
  • Oversee contractor lifecycle management including scope development, mobilisation, site supervision and performance evaluation.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, landholder agreements and project approvals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to coordinate works with operational schedules and risk management frameworks.
  • Deliver reporting on programme status, budget, compliance and risk mitigation.

What you’ll bring

The successful candidate will have strong expertise in vegetation and land management, with proven experience leading contractor teams, managing compliance, and delivering effective vegetation control programs across complex operational environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage contractors effectively, ensuring safety, quality and cost control.
  • Strong knowledge of Queensland environmental regulations and biosecurity requirements.
  • Proficiency with Excel and familiarity with GIS and inspection reporting tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Comfortable working independently and travelling frequently across remote sites.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management or similar.
  • Project Management qualifications advantageous
  • Chemical handling and biosecurity training highly desirable
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensive

Ideally, you will possess a background in agriculture, horticulture, or chemical application, coupled with significant relevant experience in similar roles
